The intersection of René-Lévesque Boulevard and Turnbull Street

We are staying at my mother's who lives on the corner of Grande-Allée and Turnbull streets, right outside the Perimeter Wall. We are heading towards her building.  Because of police roadblocks, we have to use a detour to reach the intersection of Turnbull and René-Lévesque Boulevard where a peaceful crowd spreads out. The sun shines.  Some young people are dancing.  The stone-throwers seem to be active further east on René-Lévesque, close to the Perimeter Wall.  It's hard to see because of the distance and the crowd.  Like most people here, we are simply standing and looking. Trying to understand the situation.  I was born and raised in Québec City.  I feel I have the right to know what is going on in my home town, my own country, my own continent.  I believe I have the right to witness things for myself, without the filters of media or politicians' statements - all the more when events are unfolding on my doorstep. All of a sudden, there's a crowd movement nearby: a tear gas bomb has just landed a few metres away, fired by police posted on René-Lévesque.
